"THAT" Mom

Yup! I'm "THAT" mom! I got to watch the marching band march through the first song of their show at practice tonight. It was the first time they've made it through the entire piece and it looked so good! I got choked up. It's not only that my baby is marching in the high school band...I am so proud of her! I can't help but get emotional when she's out on the field and working so hard and then it all comes together.

Friday night is the first game...away, but we're going. Wouldn't miss it!! I'll get to see her in her uniform under the lights...and I'll probably get emotional. Other mom's reading this post get it...mom's like me..."THAT" mom!

17 years

Yesterday, Lance & I celebrated our 17th anniversary. It's really hard to believe we've been married 17 years! Although, when I sit and think about it, we've been through a lot in just 17 years. We've moved 5 times, suffered loss, have a daughter in high school, Lance has completed 2 master's degrees, I got 1/2 way through one & I cannot even count the job changes in all of this....wow. That's a lot!!

So, here we are. I would never have imagined 17 years ago that I would be a pastor's wife, living in Florida. Life is good and we are blessed! God has given me more than I could have imagined!! I am thankful for the richness of the 17 years we've had together and cannot wait to see what God has planned for our future!!

Time

I helped my "baby" get ready for band pictures today. I watched my little girl transform into a high school band member before my eyes. This whole transition into high school has me feeling a little anxious, a lot excited and sad. I am so proud of who Jordan is becoming, but I know that she is growing up....way too fast for my comfort.

The reality of having a single child is that our firsts are also our lasts. This is the first and last time my child will enter high school. I want to take each moment with her and bottle it up and save it. I wish I could sometimes just stop the clock and hold onto those moments. Like this morning when she turned to look at me in that uniform and smiled that beautiful smile.

I'm trying to find that balance between relishing each moment and mourning the fact that in four short years she is leaving to go to college. So, I will be at every football game, standing up for my little girl as she takes the field to march. I'll be "that mom" that cries the first time they get into formation, so proud of the hard work they have done. Yup....I'm that sappy mom that wants to stop the clock and hold on to each moment I have left. My mom told me the best thing you can give your child is "roots to grow and wings to fly". Sounds easier than it is!
